Annual Meeting August 29th. Submit your nominations.

June 20, 2017

Hello Apopka Lacrosse Club Fans,

We want to let you know about the the upcoming annual business of the Apopka Lacrosse Club (ALC).  As a corporation with a membership that is becoming increasingly interested in the operations of the Club, we are in the process of organizing our annual meeting.  This email will serve as notification to our regular membership that our annual meeting will be held on Tuesday, August 29th, 2017 at Grace Pointe Church located at 2051 W. Lester Road in Apopka at 6:00pm.

Per our bylaws, a regular member is someone who is interested in furthering the objectives of the ALC and is eligible to hold a board position and vote in elections.  Regular members are adults who registered a player for an ALC team (limited to 2 adults per family),  or adults who have been notified of a coaching position or have been elected by the board to be a regular member.

At this meeting, members will be updated in Club business, electing board members and conducting fall season parent meetings for all of the boys’ and girls’ leagues.  The following board positions will be elected this year: president, secretary and director of boys’ lacrosse.  If you are interested in seeking any of these positions, please submit your inquires/intent along with your credentials to the current vice president, Susie O’Keefe, at

We are nothing without our members.  We are looking forward to another great season of lacrosse this fall.  Registration is now open.  Please check out our website at www.apklax.com for a variety of lacrosse opportunities for all youth and high schoolers, including a new venture in Speed Lacrosse.  It is a quick paced version of lacrosse which helps all players fine tune their stick skills.  The SPEED season will precede our regular field lacrosse season and happen in August.  It will be open to all ages, co-ed teams and is played with just a short stick.

Go Talons,

Sue Whalen

President

Frost Retires and Green Replaces

Coach Frost and Coach Green

Apopka Lacrosse Club would like to extend its deepest gratitude to our retiring high school lacrosse program coach and Apopka High School Boys’ Varsity head coach, Mr. Mike Frost.  The Apopka High School Boys’ Lacrosse team has been in existence for 9 years.  For the last 8 years, Mike Frost has been at the helm and brought the program from practicing in a retention pond off Martin Drive to one of the top programs in central Florida.   Coach Mike Frost is also a founding member of Apopka Lacrosse Club.  Coach Frost has lead his team to 7 District playoffs and garnered 4 impressive wins.    He also led them to 3 All-Metro conference wins.  Coach Mike Frost was voted “Coach of the Year” 3 times during his tenure with a career record of 88 wins to 48 losses.  They had a successful run building the program from a very small group of young men to now 2 full teams of JV and Varsity.  The Apopka Lacrosse Club has grown exponentially over the last few years and has provided a feeder program to the high school level.  He has been a blessing to many of the young men that have come through this program.  Coach Frost would like to thank the players, parents and school that he had the privilege of coaching and knowing over the last 8 years.

Picking up where Coach Frost left off, Apopka Lacrosse Club is excited to introduce Coach Andy Green.  Coach Green attended Apopka High School before moving to Texas and graduating in 2000.  He went on to attend Harding University and played for their lacrosse program from 2001-2005 as goalie.  He has coached boys’ lacrosse on many levels: Clint Small Middle School coach 2007, Harding University defensive coordinator 2008, and Tulsa Boys’ Lacrosse coach on all grade levels.  In 2013, Coach Green helped bring Tulsa Boys’ Lacrosse into the Indian Nations Lacrosse and sat on the board as the high school liaison.  He then went on to head the Jenks Lacrosse program in 2014-2015.  Upon returning to Apopka last year, Coach Green was the assistant coach for the AHS Boys’ Junior Varsity team in 2017.  Mr. Green will be teaching history at Apopka High School, heading up the AHS Boys’ Varsity team and overseeing the boys’ lacrosse program for Apopka Lacrosse Club.  The club runs programs for boys and girls 1st-12th grades.  Anyone interested in learning to play lacrosse can visit our website at www.apklax.com.
